Portsmouth 0-2 Wigan

Saturday,5 November  2005

Wigan recorded sixth win of the season, while Portsmouth failed to win a game at home turf. Pascal Chimbonda s header put Wigan ahead at the beginning of the second half. He served a fine pass to Jason Roberts who scored the second for Wigan

Portsmouth were hopeful after  their striker Lomana Lua Lua returned to the squad after six weeks of absence due to malaria. But the closest they came was Dario Silva's header which finished on the top of the net.

Pompey boss Alain Perrin has chosen cautious approach with Silva as a lone striker in front. Wigan quickly took advantage and they had initiative for the most part of the match. The breakthrough came after in the second half when Damien Francis s shot was deflected and Chimbonda scored from the resulting corner.

Wigan are now second on the Premiership table, six points behind the leaders Chelsea.
