Chelsea in shock defeat

Spanish side Real Betis inflicted first defeat on Chelsea in this season Champions League and threw the Group G wide open. Injury-ridden  Betis, who lost their Champions League match 4-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge two weeks ago, are now one point behind Blues.

Chelsea has not recorded a Champions League away win in the last 12 months - 6 matches in total. Dani Martin scored the only goal in the 28th minute, three minutes after replacing Ricardo Oliveira.

Chelsea struggled to create chances in the first half, and Morinho decided to introduce Wright-Phillips and  Drogba in place of Cole and  Gudjohnsen in the 46th minute. The Blues failed to improve in the second-half, although they came close in the 72nd minute when midfielder Michael Essien hit both posts in a single effort.

Liverpool recorded a convincing 3-0 win against Anderlecht in the same Champions League group.  Fernando Morientes, Luis Garcia and Djibril Cisse scored for Liverpool while Anderlecht played with 10 man after substitute Jestrovic was sent off in the 75th minute.

Liverpool are now leaders of the group G with 10 points followed by Chelsea with 7 and Betis who recorded 6 points.In the next round of matches due on November 23, Chelsea visits Anderlecht while Betis plays at Liverpool.
