Keane ends international career

Friday,14 October 2005Roy Kean

Republic of Ireland's captain Roy Keane has announced he is retiring from international football. The 34-year-old  Manchester United and Ireland skipper  has retired from the international scene for the second time, the first occasion being before 2002 World Cup due to clash with former Ireland's couch Mick McCarthy.

A year later he decided to return to Republic of Ireland squad after the departure of McCarthy and the appointment of Brian Kerr. Kean is also expected to end his career with Manchester United at the end of the season.

He played the last match for Republic of Ireland national team in September against France, which the Republic lost 1-0. Kean appeared 66 times in Ireland shirt and scored eight goals.
