England finished top of Group six after winning their last World Cup qualifier 2-1 against Poland. England displayed significantly better performance than in last three matches, although at the moments it was less then convincing. Michel Owen diverted Cole's shot three minutes from half-time to put England one up. The Poles equlized just before half time when substitute Frankowski volley found the way to Robinson's net. Frank Lampard's superb shot sealed the victory and the top spot for England in the 81st minute.
Republic of Ireland failed to qualify after their last match against Switzerland finished in goalless draw. Scotland finished third in Group 5 after a resounding 3-0 victory in Slovenia.
Wales won the last World Cup qualifying game 2-0 against Azerbajan while Northern Ireland lost by the same margin in Austria. Both teams failed to qualify for World Cup after finishing behind Group six leaders England and Poland.
