England defeated Austria 1-0 at Old Trafford to qualify for Germany 2006 World Cup. The place at the tournament was secured after Czech Republic lost at home 2-0 to Holland.
Frank Lampard scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in the 24th minute. England held despite playing with ten man since the skipper David Beckham was dismissed for two consecutive yellow cards. Beckham became the first player in history to be sent off twice in an England shirt . England's remaining match against Poland due to be played on Wednesday will decided who takes the top place in the group while the second-placed team will also qualify automatically due to FIFA rules . The eight group winners and the two runners-up with the best points tally will automatically qualify for the tournament.
Scotland are eliminated from the World Cup after their defeat at home against Belarus. There are 32 places in the tournament and 23 have already been decided. The national teams that have qualified are : Germany, Argentina, USA, Brazil, Japan, Iran, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Holland, Poland, England, Croatia, Italy, Tunisia, Portugal, Ecuador, Paraguay, Mexico, Angola, Togo, Ghana, Ivory Coast.
