Everton put the stiff resistance against Chelsea in a match that ended Chelsea's winning run. Everton is bottom of the Premiership table having scored only once this season and the Blues were expected to carry all three points.
Everton 's good performance in the first half was crowned with a goal from the penalty spot in the 37th minute. The referee Clattenburg ruled Shaun Wright-Philips's challenge on Tim Cahill inside the area as penalty for home side. James Beattie converted to give Toffees 1-0 advantage before half-time. Chelsea were determined to stage another come-back similar to their last week Premiership match when they destroyed Bolton despite being one goal behind at half-time. However they only managed to score once this time and they dropped the points for the first time this season.
Frank Lampard scored the equalizer in the 50th minute and although Drogba had the goal disallowed due to offside Everton held their ground for the rest of the match.
