Middlesbrough Dutch striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored in a 1-0 away win against Swiss team Grasshoppers. Boro recorded first points in their Uefa Cup Group D campaign.
The Dutchman scored the winner after only 10 minutes while Szilard Nemeth wasted a good opportunity to increase Boro's lead before half-time. Grasshoppers dominated second half and even had a goal disallowed due to offside. Bolton earned a point against the Turkish side Besiktas in Uefa Cup Group H . Bolton's poor start gave Besiktas upper hand who were one goal ahead after only seven minutes through Ailton. Joey O'Brien's error gave the opportunity to Besiktas striker and he promptly scored with a powerful shot.
However Bolton recovered and levelled in 29th ninute when El-Hadji Diouf passed the ball to Jared Borgetti who slotted home from close range. The second-half passed with very few scoring opportunities with Tal Ben Haim coming close to win all three points for Bolton.
