Manchester United were defeated by Blackburn at Old Trafford with two Morten Gamst Pedersen goals. Pedersen's first-half free kick evaded many players from both teams in the box and surprised United's goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar. United introduced Wayne Rooney in the second-half and when his shot was deflected by Blackburn's goalkeeper Ruud van Nistelrooy promptly sent the ball into the net. However, Pedersen's one-man show was not over. He scored the winner 10 minutes from time after Michael Gray's pass found him in the box.
United's defeat will greatly diminish their chances to win the Premiership title as the league leaders Chelsea won all their seven Premiership games this season.
