Michael Owen scored his first goal for Newcastle United to help Magpies win their first game of the season. Newcastle United defeated Blackburn 3-0 with the goals from Alan Shearer, Michael Owen and Charles N'Zogbia.
Shearer scored the opener after 62 minutes of play with a low free kick from the edge of the penalty area. Owen scored the second four minutes later on the perfect pass from Charles N'Zogbia. Blackburn failed to capitalize on Steven Taylor's dismissal in the 72nd minute for two bookings. Instead Charles N'Zogbia sealed the Newcastle victory with the third goal after a flowed off-side trap in the 86th minute.
Blackburn Rovers dominated the match but failed to score even after Taylor's sending off. Rovers haven't scored a goal for 379 minutes this season.
