Premiership: Newcastle Utd 0-2 Manchester Utd

Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy score in Manchester United's 2-0 win at St. James' Park Jean-Alain Boumsong's error created an opportunity for Rooney in the 66th minute, that he promptly used to put Manchester United ahead.

Ruud van Nistelrooy sealed the victory for Manchester United with a low shot in the injury time. Newcastle United had the goal disallowed in the 13th minute when the new signing Albert Luque was ruled off-side, after Edwin van der Sar saved  Alan Shearer's shot.

Newcastle United suffered another setback in the 23rd minute when Emre was forced off the pitch with a hamstring injury. However Manchester United failed to take advantage until late in the game and only after Newcastle's midfielder Lee Bowyer was replaced due to injury.

In the other Premiership fixture Middlesbrough lost at home 3-0 to Charlton.
