Manchester United inspired by Wayne Rooney's star performance defeated Hungarian champions Debrecen 3-0 in the Champions League third qualifying round. The match was attended by the three sons of new United's owner Malcolm Glazer.
Rooney scored the opener in the seventh minute of the match, and set up two more for his Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Christiano Ronaldo. The second goal came four minutes into the second half, after Rooney's pass to van Nistelorooy. Rooney picked out Ronaldo in the 63rd minute who sent the ball past Scernyanszki to give United convincing 3-0 victory over Debrecen. Manchester United are expected to easily progress to group stages after the return leg due on 24 August.
