Rio Ferdinand has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United extending his commitment to United until June 2009. The Ferdinand's signature ended all speculations about his future at Old Trafford.
Some United fans booed Ferdinand during pre-season matches as he refused to sign a deal worth £100 000 a week. He had reportedly asked for £120 000 per week. Ferdinand claimed that his commitment to United was never in question. Ferdinand moved from Leeds to Manchester United in 2002 for a record breaking fee of £30 million at that time. He was subsequently banned by FA for eight months for missing a drug test and did not play much of the season 2003/2004.
