Didier Drogba scored twice to give the Premiership champions Chelsea 2-1 win over likely title rivals Arsenal in the Community Shield match on Sunday. The Ivory Coast striker, who spent most of the last season on the bench, scored the opener in the eighth minute.
The Spanish midfielder Francesc Fabregas equalised in the nineteenth minute.Drogba scored his second, twelve minutes into second half, after superb solo effort. The Ivory Coast striker, arrived from Marseille last summer for the £24 million fee. Last season Drogba appeared 41 times for Chelsea and scored 16 goals.
This is a third time that Chelsea won English football's traditional season opener. It is also Chelsea's first victory over Arsenal in a domestic game since November 1998.
