Real Madrid signed Sevila's player Baptista on a five year contract. The news will be a disappointment to Arsenal, who were close to signing of the Brazilian striker.
Baptista preferred to stay in Spain in order to qualify for Spanish citizenship.
According to Spanish law, Baptista will be able to apply for citizenship in August, after two years spent in Spain. However he is unlikely to be become a Spanish citizen before 2006.
Sevilla stated that Real Madrid paid the fee of around £16.9 million.
Besides Arsenal, Tottenham were also linked to Baptista. Their offer was turned down by Sevilla.
