Liverpool are looking to start talks with Steven Gerrard over a new contract. Although Gerard's contract expires in two years time, Liverpool are keen to secure a long term deal.
Liverpool made the new deal with their captain a priority as there are reports that Real Madrid and Chelsea have shown interest in Gerrard. Gerrard performed well in the team that won Champions League title in May against AC Milan in Istanbul.
Despite being a European Champions, Liverpool did not secure the place in next seasons Champions League as they finished fifth in the Premiership.
UEFA changed its rules to allow Liverpool to defend their title. However Liverpool will have to play a qualifing round and have not been given country protection.
