Italy won two out of there three World Cup titles before World War II. The first title they won after the war was in 1968 when Italy defeated Yugoslavia in the final of the European Championship held in Rome.
The final match was played twice. The first match finished 1-1 after extra time and the rules required a second match.
The second match that Italy won 2-0 was played a few days later.
