Manchester United was founded in 1878 by railway workers under the name Newton Heath LYR F.C. The initial club colours where gold coloured shirt and green shorts.
In 1902 the club changed the name to Manchester United and the colours were changed to red shirt and white shorts.
After the second world war Manchester United won three League titles and one FA Cup under the management of Matt Busby until the Munich disaster in which 8 players died in a plain crash.
The times of glory returned in 1990s with Sir Alex Ferguson in management culminating in the treble of Champions League, Premiership titles and FA Cup won in 1999. Name:
